King Caesar

Like all kings of the Between before him, King Caesar earned his position as king by proving himself to be the strongest of all of the candidates to be king. He established Las Vegas as the primary base of operations for the Court of the Between, operating a Faerie hotel that exists within Caesar’s palace. He took on the alias “Caesar” then, his true name unknown even to his children. Caesar considered by many to be maniacal and ruthless and there are whispers of revolt within the court. Officially, he has named Prince Augustus the Crown Prince, skipping over his eldest child entirely.

Queen Cleopatra

Queen Cleopatra is King Caesar’s long-time consort and Queen, though it is suspected that not all of her children are actually Caesar’s. She took on the name “Cleopatra” when she became queen and it is unknown what name she used prior to then. Cleopatra has strong beliefs about what is the women’s role within the court of the Between and remains steadfast in the face of her joined’s wrath. Though she is just as cunning and mad as her King, she is loved by all of her sons.

Prince June

Prince June is the eldest of the four princes of the Between, nearly as old as his parents. June possesses the power to consume the emotions and thoughts of those around him – a power which deeply disturbs him. To cope, June goes long periods of time without feeding on these things to fulfill the basic need of his magic, instead choosing to court just one person at a time. He feels that if he gives that person the greatest gift, his full love and devotion, that when he drains them of everything (leading to their death), it is a fair trade. June’s job within the hotel is a desk job where he does HR work and manages the books for the hotel. He has an office on an upper floor with a large, bright window overlooking the pool.

Prince March

March is the second eldest of the four princes. When Julius was young, the two brothers were very close, but in recent years March has fallen into a deep madness that even the most hardened of the Between Fae find disturbing. March has always enjoyed hunting, always seeking more dangerous prey. First, he turned to large, powerful predators and sentient beings such as humans. When that did not satisfy him, he began capturing skinwalkers and hunting them in a grand arena. March’s job at the hotel is to manage the casino and make sure that wagers always fall in favor of the house. He moonlights as a bartender.

Augustus, Crown Prince

Augustus is the third of the four princes. Augustus holds dear the Teachings and lives his life according to what is written in the Teachings as though they are laws. He is physically the strongest and most muscular of the four brothers and is the strongest with a sword. Augustus is a tactical genius, cold, and calculating which led to him being named successor of the throne. Augustus is deeply troubled by how his father runs the court and plans to kill his father to take the throne. He feels like Julius is the only actual threat to his power (June has completely detached himself from the court and March has completely detached himself from reality), which has created a feud between the brothers. At his core, Augustus is contemplative and pious, though it is a side rarely seen. His job in the hotel is as part of the men’s exotic dance floor show.

Prince Julius

Julius is the youngest of the four princes and is by far the smartest, most handsome, most charismatic, and most magically powerful. Julius, too, believes that his father needs to be removed from the throne, but he is no more convinced that Augustus is a good candidate for power. He secretly plans to aid Augustus in taking the throne to eliminate one of his enemies and then to overthrow Augustus to put himself on the throne. Julius has been building an army in secret – he befriends the outcasts, brings them together through a common desire to live in a world of acceptance, and uses their loyalty to gain their protection. He has a particular affinity for skinwalkers which he learned from his elder brother March, before March went crazy, and has a close bond with Prince Milo of the Seelie court. His job at the hotel is as a concierge, specifically serving their non-human guests.

Bobbi

On a road trip across the US to tour college campuses, Bobbi and her parents were brutally attacked by deranged skinwalkers. Her parents did not live through the attack, but Bobbi’s life was saved by means of a skinwalker who turned her into a skinwalker herself. She was nursed back to health by the hands of the royal family of the Between, namely Prince Julius, and learned the ways of her new life. She left Las Vegas for a number of years, travelling on her own to gain independence, but returned when she finally realized she had nothing left but the friends she left behind in Vegas. Her beast is a bobcat.

Margaret (“Maggie”)

Maggie was a skinwalker from a local pack of mountain lions who once lived and worked at Caesar’s Palace as a bartender under March. While she believed very strongly in the traditions of skinwalkers and was raised with skinwalker morals, she felt stifled living under the constant surveillance of her family, and though her parents were the alphas of her pack, she decided to work toward a future she wanted with her mate and children. She was found mercilessly murdered and abandoned in her family home.

Thomas

Thomas is the alpha of the local pack of skinwalkers that live in and around the Las Vegas strip. He manages the Secret Garden at the Mirage hotel and sees to the needs of all of the skinwalkers that portray the animals there. He has a poor relationship with all of the brothers with the exception of June who is the object of his desire. He is particularly distanced from March after March began capturing and killing skinwalkers. Thomas was responsible for turning Bobbi into a skinwalker to save her life – and like her, his beast is a bobcat.

Luciano

Cursed by a witch to appear to be a housecat, Luciano has spent some unknown number of years living as a common housecat. He was taken in as a stray by Thomas and has lived in the luxury of the Mirage hotel since. When the spell on him was finally reversed, it was revealed that Luciano was in fact a skinwalker and that his beast was an ocelot. Luciano now struggles to re-integrate into the human world and to mimic human behaviors since cat behaviors are more natural to him. He relies heavily upon Thomas.

Gust

Gust is a reclusive hermit who lives in a small house in the gardens of the Between. Though officially he has been named knight to Prince Julius, there is little need of it when Julius is so magically talented and has gained such a massive, loyal following. Gust is difficult to speak with since he does not offer up much in the way of conversation and is moody when it does suit him to speak. Other than his mysterious loyalty to Prince Julius, he is not interested in the inner-workings of the court and does not involve himself in the hotel.
