Night, First Knight

Named “Night” by former Queen Dream, Twilight is a prodigy both with a sword and with his glamor. He holds the record for passing his knight trials three days after his 20th birthday. He served as First Knight under Queen Dream for the majority of her 500 year reign and again under Queen Lune for the 3,000 she has remained on the throne. He is known for his unusual magical aptitude including a mysterious ability to manipulate shadows. Night trains knight candidates, oversees the security of the palace, and acts as a surrogate father to Prince Light. He is father to Princess Silver and consort to Queen Lune, King Star, and L’Arc.

L’Arc, Most Senior Knight

L’Arc is one of the few yet living since the split of the Seelie and Unseelie courts. Together with Queen Fire and King Smoke, he built the Unseelie court from the ground up, and is largely responsible for how the court operates today. He is influential, the former First Knight (both in title and in the literal sense), once known as the Son of the Betrayer, and is now recognized as the Most Senior Knight – a term adopted from the Seelie court after the downfall of Queen Dream. He fills many roles including knight, royal tutor, recorder of Unseelie history, royal gardener, writer of many pieces of work in the library, consort to many queens past and current, consort to Night (his former student and protege), father to Gold, Princess Iris, and Princess Aurora, and surrogate father to Mist, Wind, and Star.

Mist, First Knight to Prince Light

The older, wiser, stronger, and more stately twin (or so he insists) to Wind. He is First Knight, destined, and joined to Prince Light, and has enjoyed a period of knighthood where he can relax and take his duties lightly for his charge is a talented knight in his own right. Vapor, as he was known then, was handpicked when he turned of age to undergo knight trials to become L’Arc’s second during the reign of Queen Bloom; but while Vapor accomplished many great things, he was also wont to follow orders without question, often pursuing dirty work to keep his queen’s hands clean. He was renamed to Mist by a woman known as “Hotaru,” and has since then tried to suppress the memories of hurt Vapor caused. He is sarcastic and a bit narcissistic, but is one of the most loving men of the court.

Wind

The younger, handsomer, funnier, more talented twin (or so he will tell you) to Mist. Wind, once known as Zephyr, has faced the stigma of being the second twin his whole life. It was always assumed he would be weaker than his brother and that one day he would fall to madness. Wind was driven from the Unseelie Court when he was blamed for the disappearance of Princess Iris and spent many years exploring Faerie and the human world alike. Worldly, intelligent, strong in magic, and full of delightful humor, Wind is irreverent at the best of times and downright obnoxious the rest.

Light, First Knight to Crown Princess Ciel

Light from a young age declared that he would set aside his rights to the throne to instead protect his mother, Queen Lune, as her knight. Light is especially strong in glamor which served him well in his knight training, making him one of the strongest of his time. However, the other senior knights spent much of his life holding him back from important assignments due to the fact that he was still technically the single heir to the throne and his safety was a priority. He immediately declared himself First Knight to the princess the moment Princess Ciel was born and was given more of an opportunity to display his abilities.

Porcelain, Second Knight to Queen Lune

Porcelain is the daughter of Sir Diamond, one of the oldest knights of the Unseelie Court. At the time she became a knight, it was unheard of for women to complete knight training, other than her mother, and she felt responsibility to be a role model for young women who followed. Porcelain is tough as nails, sarcastic, and places her duty before all else. She is joined with her long-time consort Waltz. They have two children, Glaze and Copper.

Bright, Third Knight to Queen Lune

Being the son of two respectable, highly ranked knights, the stars seemed to align themselves just right for Bright, yet his path in life did not quite reach the greatest he had envisioned for himself. As his name suggests, Bright is bright-eyed, overeager, and loyal to a fault – he entered knight training as soon as he was able, under the expectation he would pass easily. Instead, luck never seemed to be on his side, for Night and L’Arc saw to it that he would remain a knight in training for countless years despite Bright’s every attempt to do well by them. He gained the favor of Queen Lune when she was a child, becoming one of her dearest friends.

Drake, First Knight to the King

Drake was discovered near Lune’s Lagoon in his late teens in a state near death. The Healers of the Unseelie Court nursed him back to health only to discover his unusual strength and speed that made him an ideal candidate for knight. Drake made fast-friends with Star as the two trained together to become knights, but held a deep grudge against Star upon his death. Drake has an odd obsession with shiny objects and is known to pilfer gold trinkets compulsively. He serves as the First Knight to King Star.

Waltz, Head of the Queen’s Knights

Everything occurs in threes. This is a philosophy that has been the primary driver behind Waltz’s life and dictates how he reacts to the world around him. Waltz is a capable knight, but even more impressive as a leader and strategist. He is naturally charismatic and is nearly clairvoyant in his predictions of the future. He is considered by Night and L’Arc to be the third branch in a trio that oversees the knights.

Beau, First Knight to Princess Aurora

Beau and Lucky entered knight training around the same time and were graduates of the same round of trials. Both were viewed as exceptional by both Night and L’Arc and were welcomed into the elite group of Queen’s Knights, the group of ten knights assigned to protect the queen. When Princess Aurora sought a first knight, she was not impressed with the displays of bravado by most. Beau, honest and eager, charmed Aurora by crediting her as the reason he entered knight training. He is the object of Aurora’s affection, but insists that their relationship be chaste until she turns of-age at 20.

Lucky, First Knight to Prince Horizon

Lucky is the daughter of a noble family and long-time friend to Prince Horizon. She has long held Sir Porcelain in high regard and believes that more women should undergo knight training. Upon passing her trials, Lucky entered the Queen’s Knights. She was quick to accept the position as Prince Horizon’s First Knight when the opportunity arose and the two became consorts after a period of very awkward and confusing courtship.
