Ginger
Ginger is the Master Hunter of the Unseelie court who is responsible for supplying fresh meat to those who live in the palace and keeping beasts from wandering into the gardens of the Unseelie court. Ginger is nearly as old as the court itself, born not long after the split of the courts. She is unmatched in her skills with a bow even by the strongest knights and knows the forest better than anyone. She has a strong friendship with L’Arc as they were young together and both look to Spice as a mentor. She met Princess Iris when Iris wandered into the forest by herself and they became fast friends. The disappearance of the princess left Ginger devastated and she threw herself more fully into her work.
Spice
Once known as the Most Senior Knight of the Seelie court, Spice was one of the Fae that was cast out into the Unseelie court when the courts split. She no longer wished to be involved in the politics of the court believing that the Unseelie court was truly no better than the Seelie court. She maintained her noble status, despite refusing to live within palace walls, and bought the safety and freedom for her family by promising that her family would always supply the royal court with fresh food from the forest. Spice was a mentor and mother figure to L’Arc and taught him much of what he knows about being First Knight. She has two consorts, though she has been separated from Maple for many a year and she loves to play coy with Diamond.
Cassia, Laos, Nutmeg, Vanilla, Anise, Poppy, Cinnamon, and Honey
Ginger’s mother Cassia had several lovers over the years, but only Laos has remained with her as her consort to help her raise her seven daughters. Ginger is the eldest daughter and her six sisters (Nutmeg, Vanilla, Anise, Poppy, Cinnamon, and Honey) all live in the forest together with Cassia, Laos, and Spice. Each of the sisters has a strong suit that makes them valuable within the family – notably, Anise is a beastmaster, Cinnamon is training to be a huntress like Cassia and Ginger, and Honey is learning how to be a princess so she may be a body-double to Princess Aurora. Ginger and Spice both are very motivated by what is in the best interests of their family, putting it above what is best for the court or crown.
Ember
A woman who lives in a small town within the depths of the Unseelie court, declared to be princess and true heir of the Unseelie court by her cult following. She rules over the land, though they are not recognized as a self-governing community. They were first brought to the attention of Queen Lune when word was catching on that there would be an upcoming attack against the crown, and she sent Night and L’Arc to investigate the area. It’s rumored that she participates in illicit activity to fund her lifestyle, but she never endorsed an all out battle against the royal crown.
Maple
Maple acts as knight, advisor, and guardian to Ember, and mainly keeps to himself. Not much is known about his background other than that he was one of the fae driven out of the Seelie court, and that his consort is Spice, with whom he has been separated for many years. He is content to let Ember do her own thing, but doesn’t show any intent to deviate from their life there for the time being.
The Pack
The pack of skinwalkers that resides within the forest of the Unseelie court is led by an alpha lioness that has yet to take a mate. They are unusually long-lived for skinwalkers given that they have remained in Faerie and many of them remember a time when they roamed the lands where the Unseelie Court now stands. The newest addition to their pack is a skinwalker named Ana whose beast is a massive anaconda. Ana was discovered by Julius who learned that she spent most of her days as a beast and no longer was able to function in human society. He sent her to the lioness which gained him both the loyalty of the pack as well as the loyalty of Ana.
Lightning
Lightning was a ranger who aided Wind on his travels during a time when there was a bounty out on his head. Little is known of her origin, though there is speculation that she may have been a member of the Bee Maidens that ran from the order to escape the life promised to every Bee Maiden. Her motive, or so she told Wind, was to be reunited with her destined and to set forth the necessary series of events for that to happen. She perished during the fighting when Queen Flower died and her life yet remains a mystery.
