Former Royalty

Queen Fire (4700 – 4675 BCE)

The First Queen, Fire, was the fifth-born princess of the Seelie court prior to the Seelie civil war. She became a symbol of the revolution for the fae that revolted as she backed their views that fae should not be cast from the court simply for their differences. When the courts split, she was the favorite to rule over those that were cast from the Seelie court. She founded the Unseelie court along with her king, Smoke, and her First Knight, L’Arc and was mother to both Queen Ashes and Prince Gold. Fire is highly revered even in modern times and history texts speak of her as visionary, awe-inspiring, and a woman of the people. Some believed her to be too gentle for the harsh condition of the new court, however, and there was talk of treason in the lower ranks. Her reign ended suddenly when she took her own life circa 4675 BCE.

Queen Ashes (4675 – 4600 BCE)

Queen Ashes took the throne in the wake of her mother’s death with a heavy heart. It was not widely known that Queen Fire had taken her own life as it was Ashes who discovered her mother’s body, so many believed it to be Queen Ashes who had killed the former Queen. Though her mother was the first to use the term “Queen of All Darkness,” it was Ashes who gave the title meaning. She was terrifying, powerful, and ruthless and was known far and wide as one who was not to be crossed. In her personal life she had been hardened by the experiences of her youth, but was loving toward her children, Princess Kindle and Prince Phoenix, her King Flame, and had a very close relationship with her father, Former King Smoke. Ashes was assassinated circa 4600 BCE, though the circumstances surrounding the assassination remain a mystery.

Queen Kindle (4600 – 4525 BCE)

Queen Kindle and King Twig had one child, Princess Leaf. Kindle was slain by L’Arc circa 4525 BCE.

Queen Leaf (4525 – 4450 BCE)

Queen Leaf and King Fallen had one child, Princess Autumn. Leaf was slain by L’Arc circa 4450 BCE.

Queen Autumn (4450 – 4350 BCE)

Queen Autumn and King Winter had one child, Princess Spring. Autumn was slain by L’Arc circa 4350 BCE.

Queen Spring (4350 – 4250 BCE)

Queen Spring and King Seed had one child, Princess Bloom. Spring was slain by L’Arc circa 4250 BCE.

Queen Bloom (4250 – 4000 BCE)

Queen Bloom is mostly remembered not for her time as queen, but for the stark disparity between the personalities of her daughters, Princess Flower and Princess Iris. Much of Queen Bloom and King Moss’ later years were spent endlessly controlling their daughter’s behavior, and slipping past notice of all that Bloom was preparing for Iris to be her successor to the throne. Unfortunately before she could name Iris to be Crown Princess by time she was to come of age, Iris disappeared, and Bloom found herself suffering a broken heart. She was killed by the hand of Princess Flower mere weeks later, and found dead in her bed by Vapor.

Queen Flower (4000 – 3850 BCE)

During her reign, Queen Flower was a paranoid tyrant who distrusted most of her subjects, and has been recorded in the history books as the queen who ordered a widespread purge of the knights, severely damaging their reputation and the overall security of the palace. There are whispers amongst the court that her death was a combined effort of several highly ranked knights, for First Knight L’Arc had left the palace for reasons unknown spanning a couple of months, and Sir Vapor had stepped up to take his place, but there has never been solid proof of the culprit.

Queen Petal (3850 – 3700 BCE)

Queen Petal’s reign was marked by the distinct lack of anything important, revolutionary, or disturbing. Petal was easily manipulated, not very strong willed, and overall ill-suited to the position of Queen. Her King, the pragmatic Rhyme, was believed to be the puppet master, truly ruling the court using Queen Petal as a mouthpiece. Together, they had one child, Princess Wish. Petal attempted to step down peacefully from the throne, recognizing that she was not the ideal ruler of the court and that her daughter was far more fit for the role. It is strongly suspected that Queen Petal’s assassination circa 3700 BCE was ordered by Queen Wish. Some even believe Wish herself killed her own mother.

Queen Wish (3700 – 3500 BCE)

Queen Wish re-established the old tradition of the Queen of All Darkness, returning to the ruthless actions in court, the dark appearance, and the edge of madness that kept her enemies well at bay. Queen Wish was respected by her people and by the court, but lacked the charm and charisma that once made Queen Fire so successful and would later make Queen Dream and Queen Lune so deeply adored. Queen Wish and King Heart had one daughter, Dream, who began planning exactly how she would assume the throne from a very young age. Wish and Heart were assassinated by Vapor, Dream’s First Knight, circa 3500 BCE.

Queen Dream (3500 – 3025 BCE)

Queen Dream’s reign is second only to her daughter Lune’s in length and was known for prosperity within the court. The Unseelie Court established itself as a true power compared to the Seelie court during her reign. Dream was always at least one step ahead of all those around her, known for her cleverness, insight, and eerie knack for knowing when others hid secrets. She amassed a following of loyal knights including her First Knight, Twilight (or as she called him, “Night”), Vapor, and L’Arc. Dream and her King Thane had one child, Princess Lune. Dream and Lune’s relationship was close, for the most part, with Dream feeling it was very important to give Lune the tools she needed to be Queen when Dream sensed the inevitability of her own death. When Dream ordered Star’s death, Lune ordered a coup led by Night. Dream and Thane willingly died at the hands of Night to surrender the throne to Lune circa 3025 BCE.
