Magic

Old Magic

Soulseeing (Dreamwalking)

Soulseeing empowers the user to see within the mind and heart of another being. They may see their darkest desires, their dreams, their wishes, and even dig deep enough to meet previous incarnations of their soul that have lived in past lives. All of the goddesses and gods are believed to possess this soulseeing magic, though it is all but lost on the living Fae. A small handful of Fae still possess a much less prominent version of the magic, Dreamwalking, which allows them to enter the sleeping mind of another being and manipulate their dreams.

Transformation Magic

Transformation magic allows the user to transform her/his body into an entirely different creature. Though not completely unrelated to the magic that causes the skinwalkers to “shift” in the moonlight, transformation magic does not require an inherent “beast” and may be used at any time that the user has gathered enough magical power to complete the necessary ritual. In the past 5,000 years of Faerie history, there have only been three known users of transformation magic, though it is rumored that somewhere there lies an ancient artifact imbued with transformation magic that would allow any fae with enough magical ability to transform her/himself…

Clairvoyance

Clairvoyance is a power given to all of the stars by their mother Asteria – the power to see what is, what has been, and what will be. Only one living family of witches is known to possess Clairvoyance. The most powerful of these is only able to get glimpses of the future without context and is completely unable to change her destiny based upon the knowledge of the future. It is taboo for a clairvoyant witch to share the future with others for fear of “manifest destiny.”

Necromancy

Necromancy grants the power to see and speak with the spirits of the dead that linger in the human world. It is heavily stigmatized as it is falsely believed to be linked to the forbidden Death Magic (and is very creepy), but mostly is a benign power. In theory, a necromancer powerful enough could return the dead to the world of the living, but there are no known occurrences of this.

Healing

Healing magic is rare and highly coveted in Faerie. Fae that are discovered to have healing magic are taken from that moment to live in small, enclosed communities with other healers where they practice their healing magic daily. Healers are never given the option to live this life style since so few exist. A fae with healing magic may be able to close open wounds, remove poison from the body, and even delay death by broken heart.

Forbidden Magic

Death Magic

Death Magic is so named for it requires the sacrifice of life to perform. Death Magic itself refers to the action of gaining power through taking life, but it is used in conjunction with other magics. A famous example is when Mountain, a Fae of the Seelie court, used death magic together with transformation magic to give up his own mortal life in exchange for immense power and became the first Light Stealer, or Vampire as they are known in the human world.

Elemental Magic

Earth

Earth elemental witches are among the rarest. Earth elements have equal measure of control over all of the elements including, of course, Earth itself and with the exception of Light/Dark. Earth elements are teeming with power and are believed to be some of the closest to possessing Faerie magic in the human world. Earth elements share a natural bond with skinwalkers since both draw magical energy from the moon.

Light/Dark

Light/Dark elemental witches only occur within two families in the human world – the now defunct Suoh family and in two members of the Toriyama family. Light/Dark elements have a small measure of control over all other elements except Earth and are particularly proficient in manipulating shadows and light. It is believed that Light/Dark elements are destined for madness due to the dual nature of their power.

Fire, Water, Wind, etc.

The most common type of elemental magic, all witches are born with control over at least one element. Many encounter their element accidentally as they come into their powers which generally manifest alongside puberty. A witch who has been trained in their element may use it as a tool of war and destruction or for more practical and useful purposes.
