Traditions and Holidays

TURN OF THE YEAR

The Turn of the Year is celebrated in the Unseelie Court and Seelie Court and is equivalent to a New Year celebration. It is accompanied by feasting, parties that last through the night, and generally a lot of drinking. Fae of the Between celebrate the human New Year.

SPRING EQUINOX

The Equinox is celebrated in the Between as a day for balance between the hard-working lower class Fae and the nobility, mingling people of all walks of life during the celebration. They believe the Fae of the beyond celebrate the coming of spring and model their celebration in honor of that of the goddesses and gods.

MAY DAY

The first day of May is celebrated with dancing, feasting, and liquor like most Fae festivities. Traditional May Day garb is colorful and adorned with rainbow ribbons. It is believed that those who are joined on May Day will be blessed with happiness and prosperity in their joining. All courts celebrate May Day, though perhaps none quite as grandiosely as the Unseelie Court.

SILVER DAY

Traditionally the day immediately following May Day, Silver Day was a holiday born when young Princess Silver of the Unseelie Court was not yet ready to let go of the festivities and declared that it would be a holiday in her honor the following day with many of the same festivities as the day before. Silver Day may occur more than once in one calendar year and may be declared at any time.

SUMMER SOLSTICE

The Summer Solstice is one of two holidays that is important to the good relations between the Unseelie and Seelie courts. Celebrated in the Seelie Court, it is a day when Seelie fae invite the Unseelie royal family into their court to wear traditional Seelie clothing, eat traditional Seelie food, and enjoy the hospitality of the Seelie royal family. Though it is a long-standing tradition, there have been periods of history when the two families were not in good standing enough to agree to celebrate together.

SEPTIMUS MONTH

Septimus is a holiday celebrated only in the Between in honor of their First King, Septimus. Fae of the Between wear red clothing, ribbons, or accessories each day for the entire month of September in his honor and those that believe in the teachings will visit his final resting place for private reflection.

HARVEST

Celebrated on the third Thursday of September, the Faerie festival of harvest is a celebration of – you guessed it – feasting, drinking, and general merriment. The tradition is as old as the courts themselves and is spoken of in the teachings as a celebration of the goddess of the harvest. Harvest season foods (squash, apples, corn, etc.) are served in every imaginable combination – savory and sweet alike.

ALL HALLOW’S EVE

Celebrated in the Between simply as “Halloween,” All Hallow’s Eve was recently adopted by the Unseelie court under the influence of the current royal family that has a greater connection to the human world. Celebrations include a masquerade ball, pranks, tricks, and games.

WINTER SOLSTICE

The Winter Solstice is one of two holidays that is important to the good relations between the Unseelie and Seelie courts. Celebrated in the Unseelie Court, it is a day when Unseelie fae invite the Seelie royal family into their court to wear traditional Unseelie clothing, eat traditional Unseelie food, and enjoy the hospitality of the Unseelie royal family. Though it is a long-standing tradition, there have been periods of history when the two families were not in good standing enough to agree to celebrate together.
